Many Britons are choosing to go away to countries such as Spain this Christmas in order to enjoy the warmer weather.
The Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA) stated that the country was the most popular destination among holidaymakers seeking a hotter climate during the winter.
This could prove to beneficial to overseas property investors who own rental accommodation in popular resorts.
ABTA also stated that winter sports fans also took full advantage of the Christmas break, with many choosing to go to ski resorts in countries such as France and Italy.
A spokesperson for the organisation commented: "Along with August, Christmas is the biggest time people choose to go on holiday."
She said that this was largely down to limited activity in the workplace due to Christmas, as well as many having time off work.
The organisation added that many people tended to book their winter breaks up to a year in advance.
According to recent estimates from ABTA, British people are likely to make up to 44 million foreign trips in 2007.
