Many Britons who are relocating abroad are having large and valuable possessions shipped overseas to help them cope, according to a removal firm.
Cotswold Carriers stated an increasing number of people had chosen to move to warmer countries such as Spain in the last few years.
As a result, the firm has been hired by many expats to ship their personal belongings abroad, including bulky items of both financial and sentimental value.
The firm said that since they had to assimilate into another country's way of life, taking treasured possessions was a way for people to cope with the impact of being away from familiar surroundings.
Bill Cooper, managing director of Cotswold Carriers, commented: "Having some favourite furniture or ornaments with you can stop you from feeling so far from home and help to ease the transition to your new life."
Speaking to Homes Worldwide, he added that many people were drawn to Spain because of the lifestyle and good climate.
According to official data, 385,000 Britons moved abroad during the 12 months to July 2006.
