The number of tourists visiting the Spanish province of Andalusia this year is higher than in 2006, according to new figures.
Vice president Gaspar Zarrias was quoted by the Indo-Asian News Service as saying that more visitors had arrived between January and September than in the whole of 2006.
Meanwhile, he stated approximately 40 per cent of tourists were repeat visitors who had previously taken holidays in the region.
Mr Zarrias said this showed that the region offered "something special" to holidaymakers, such as a diverse range of landscapes in a relatively small area, such as beaches and mountainous terrain.
"In Andalucia, contrasts are the norm," he continued.
"Nowhere else in the world can you drive in two and a half hours from perpetually snow-clad mountains to wide beaches."
Andalusia's growing popularity could encourage potential investors in purchase rental accommodation in the vicinity.
Earlier this month, a poll of prospective buyers by Country Life magazine found that more than one in ten respondents were thinking of entering the Spanish property market.
