Winter sun draws visitors to Spain

The guarantee of warm and sunny weather in Spain will make it a highly popular holiday destination this Christmas, experts have predicted.

According to the Association of British Travel Agents, the country's weather is better than the UK's in winter, meaning that many people will be likely to jet abroad for this period.

The Canary Islands and the Costa del Sol were tipped to be especially popular among festive holidaymakers by the organisation.

ABTA added that since they both offered guaranteed sunshine all year round, they had also become appealing options for overseas property buyers.

Frances Tuke, spokesperson for the body, commented: "Because of the huge numbers of people who have holiday homes in Spain, that is our top destination."

According to Yorkshire Bank, this year's wet summer in Britain has led to almost half of people in the UK thinking of investing a sunnier location.
