Tourists are increasingly choosing to book their summer accommodation months in advance, according to experts.
MyHoliday.com stated that more holiday homes were needed in popular tourist areas, as people were being forced to book up to nine months early in order to get the best ones available.
The website stated that people who left it late ran the risk of being left out, as the only properties left would be ones in less desirable locations.
This means that many opportunities for prospective investors could exist in many of the most popular tourist resorts, as they could buy a property to let and satisfy the strong demand.
France and Spain were named as the top two summer destinations for tourists on self-catering holidays, followed by countries including Turkey, Italy and Portugal.
Claus Sorensen, chief executive of MyHoliday.com, said: "Despite the large boom in the property market, there is still a great need of more holiday rentals."
According to the Association of British Travel Agents, many holiday home owners are likely to stay in their property themselves at Christmas in order to escape the winter weather in the UK.
