A new initiative to attract more Chinese holidaymakers to Spain is underway, it has been reported.
According to AFP, Jose Eugenio Salarich of the Spanish foreign ministry wants to see a ten-fold increase in the number of visitors from China in the next few years.
He commented: "The number of Chinese tourists we get each year - between 20,000 and 30,000 - is very low."
AFP stated that a series of measures were underway to expedite this increase, such as the government working to improve air links between Spain and China.
Furthermore, investment in promoting the country abroad had been increased, allowing it to achieve greater prominence at events such as Chinese travel fairs.
The country's tourism sector was recently cited as one of the reasons for its popularity among overseas property buyers.
NatWest stated that Spain was the most popular foreign hotspot, mainly because people wanted a property at a good holiday location.
