An increasing number of Britons are choosing to become expatriates, official figures have revealed.
Data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) showed that the number of UK citizens opting to move abroad permanently reached record levels last year, with 207,000 people leaving the country.
Since the current system of measuring net migration was introduced 16 years ago, the figure has never exceeded 200,000 until now.
The ONS figures also showed that European countries still remained highly popular destinations, with Spain and France attracting one in four British expatriates.
Mark Bodega, director of currency specialist HiFX, commented: "Emigrating can mean the start of a fantastic life abroad."
However, he recommended that people could avoid potential problems by seeking expert advice from specialists such as tax advisers.
Mr Bodega added that Britons who were planning to move abroad should "make the most" of all the professional assistance that was available to them before moving.
