More people are set to fly to Spain next year due to the introduction of new flights next year.

British Airways is to offer extra services from its London-based hubs to destinations including Malaga from March 2008.

Additional flights to Palma and Alicante will also be launched by the carrier at the same time.

Robert Boyle, commercial director at BA, commented: "We are opening up these Mediterranean hotspots with our new flights and are confident that they will be very popular with customers."

If the new services do attract more visitors to Spain, it should prove to be highly lucrative for the country's tourist industry.

Overseas property investors will also be in line to benefit, as they would pick up higher rental returns.

The announcement comes shortly after budget carrier Ryanair launched a new thrice-weekly service to Alicante from Doncaster Sheffield Airport.
