Big news is that Spain, Britain and the Rock of Gibraltar have at last come to an understanding about the airport at Gibraltar. Traditionally, Gibraltar and Spain have had a “rocky” relationship. However the Gibraltar Airport agreement will side-step other ongoing disputes over the colony’s sovereignty and one major objective is to relax border controls, eliminating the long delays that have become synonymous with visiting the Rock. With the absence of border control delays, an increased number of British people will use Gibraltar rather than Málaga airport, many of whom will be drastically cutting the travel time to their Spanish destination. In addition Gibraltar will introduce flights to Madrid in the near future.
Other nearby airports at Seville, Jerez and Málaga also serve the region, but Gibraltar will be a useful point at which many people will find easy access here a advantage. With Britain and Spain sharing the use of Gibraltar airport, the property market of Costa de la Luz, as well as in parts of the Costa del Sol, is in for a timely boost, while investment opportunities here are better than ever before. Gibraltar's Chief Minister, Peter Caruana, will attend a three-way meeting with Spanish Foreign Minister, Miguel Angel Moratinos, and Europe Minister, Geoff Hoon, in Spain on September 18. It will be the first time Gibraltar's top official has represented the Rock at such a high-level meeting with Spain.
