Research carried out by Banco Halifax Hispania has revealed that not only is Spain the favourite foreign investment location amongst Britons, but 68% of those who said Spain was their number one choice, were under the age of 55 and only 14% were over 64.
"It has long been assumed that only the older generation is buying property in Spain, but this is far from the case, as it is also proving to be a popular location amongst younger age groups," says Ian Smith, head of European Operations at Halifax. He adds, "Spain is an ideal destination to set up a second home as British people can benefit from shorter, more frequent trips to their property at affordable prices."
While many regions of Spain, have plenty of work for young professionals in service sectors such as IT, real estate, marketing, sales, hotels and catering, teaching, health & beauty, Spain is becoming increasingly viable as a relocation destination near to “home”. Those simply purchasing holiday homes are seeing the great advantages that a good buy-to-let market in key Spanish areas can offer. Meanwhile this provides them with the investment vehicle needed to get onto the first rung of the property ladder, while guaranteed rentals help pay off their mortgages.
In our view, it is inevitable that Spain will continue to see increasing numbers of young British immigrants and investors alike, looking for Spanish property, a short trip away, at prices they can afford.
