Many Britons are visiting other countries in order to visit friends and relatives who have decided to moved abroad, according to official data.
The Office for National Statistics (ONS) highlighted Spain and France as two destinations that were being visited for the purpose of catching up with people who have left the UK.
This serves to highlight the growing popularity of setting up home overseas and how it is becoming increasingly common among British nationals.
Last year, the ONS revealed that about 207,000 people from Britain chose to leave the country on a permanent basis during 2006.
The organisation highlighted Spain and France as two of the most popular destinations, along with Australia.
New figures from the ONS also showed that the overall number of British people travelling abroad went up by 4.7 per cent between 2005 and 2006.
Spain was highlighted as one of the most-visited places, mainly among leisure rather than business travellers.
