A property buyer in Spain has described how being patient and doing the right sort of research helped him find a bargain deal.
Simon Jordan, an air steward from Guildford in Surrey, pulled out of an arrangement to buy an off-plan property in 2007 due to delays in building work and bided his time in order to find the right alternative, the Times reports.
As a result, he was able to identify a Costa del Sol new-build two-bedroom apartment near Marbella and contacted developers Taylor Woodrow.
Mr Jordan found he was able to gain a large discount on the property at the El Bosque development in Elviria, with the price lowered from €275,000 (£238,000) to €155,000.
Mr Jordan told the paper: "We are very pleased. We cannot believe it has really happened."
The feature in the Times suggested that new builds may be the best type of property to target for those who carry out good research, possess strong negotiating skills and have the funds to buy.
