The Costa del Sol is to see a major cleansing operation take place, which will see polluted foam removed from the sea.
Regional councillor for tourism in Andalucia Luciano Alonso revealed that the operation will take place over a three-year operation period, costing €5.8 million (£5.26 million), Typically Spanish reports.
There will be 25 boats involved in the project, with 12 allocated to the western part of the region, 11 to Axarquia and the other four to Malaga.
Such a development may make buying in the region more attractive, due to the cleaner coastal waters that will result from the undertaking.
The Costa del Sol offers a wide range of attractions in addition to its popular golf resorts, travelgolf.com has stated.
Other features of the region include Marbella's old town, the Picasso Museum in Malaga and historic city of Ronda, which features the Roman bridge of Puente Nuevo.
