Demise of the staycation may boost Spanish property market

Buy-to-let investors around the world will be pleased to learn that next year will see the demise of the staycation.

According to TripAdvisor, a growing number of holidaymakers will be taking advantage of long-haul and short-haul trips in the coming year.

The organisation's Travel Trends Survey found that two-thirds of Brits are planning to take a long-haul holiday in 2011, with one in ten looking to travel more during the year.

Emma O'Boyle, TripAdvisor spokeswoman, said: "The traditional eurozone destinations, such as Spain, Portugal and Greece will remain popular.

"But if the euro continues to track unfairly against the pound next year we expect to see non-euro short-haul destinations such as Turkey and Egypt continue to grow in popularity."

The news may lead to an increase in the number of individuals looking to buy property in Spain, with the destination likely to be a favourite among travelling Brits in the coming year.
