Many British people are set to spend this year's festive season in other European countries, according to a new study.
Research by the Post Office found that at least 2.4 million were planning to spend Christmas and New Year's Eve outside of the UK.
Spain was said to be the first choice destination among almost one in five festive travellers, while Italy and France were also flagged up as popular places.
The Post Office attributed the trend to the affordability of foreign travel, which has come about as a result of growth in the budget airlines industry.
Commenting on the findings, director of lending Gary Fitton said: "For many people, going abroad for Christmas is a great way to relax and not have to worry about cooking Christmas dinner."
