Those looking to move overseas will find the best quality of life in France, according to a new survey.
The uSwitch.com Quality of Life Index measured ten European countries for a range of indicators and placed the country at the top of the list, followed by Spain, while Britain came at the bottom.
Among the findings were that UK residents will tend to work three years longer and die two years earlier than their French counterparts, that France has more public holidays, greater public health spending and more sunshine than most other countries.
Just two of the ten nations in the rest of the list have better weather than France, with Spain being the sunniest, as well as having the most holidays.
Those considering Spain may also note that it has the cheapest alcohol and petrol.
Last week, editor at A Place in the Sun Magazine Richard Way commented that Britons are increasingly looking to familiar European destinations to buy in.
He said there will be a "gradual" rise in purchases over the next two years.
