The Iberian Peninsula is proving to be very popular with holidaymakers from the West Country, it has been revealed.
According to Bristol-based travel agent The Flight Centre, many consumers are booking trips to Spain and Portugal for the October half-term.
Speaking to the Evening Post, spokesperson Amanda Tapp said the two destinations are attracting attention because they offer guaranteed sunshine at this time of year.
She commented: "Everyone says they want to get away from the rain.
"People have been coming in to book somewhere nice and hot for the half-term week."
Amber Norris, manager of First Choice's Bristol branch, concurred, telling the newspaper that people are heading to Spain as a result of the UK's "terrible" summer.
This comes after Bolton-based firm Travel Counsellors said it has seen a significant surge in consumer activity over the last month.
Managing director Steve Byrne told the Manchester Evening News that many of these bookings are for the Christmas and new year period.
