People who live in Spain currently enjoy the best quality of life in Europe, according to new research.
A study by uSwitch.com revealed that the country offers a relatively low tax burden when compared with many other parts of the continent.
Figures also showed that overall cost of essential expenses such as groceries and petrol is also much lower than in other nations.
In addition, Spain was said to offer a number of lifestyle benefits, such as a "generous" holiday allowance and the most hours of sunshine.
Meanwhile, the UK was identified as one of the worst European countries to live in, due to its soaring food prices, rising inflation and the declining housing market.
Commenting on the findings, uSwitch said: "Spain fares well in most categories, with low taxation and cheaper essential goods such as petrol, energy and food."
This could help to account for the popularity of Spain among overseas property buyers from the UK.
According to the Association of International Property Professionals, the country accounted for more than a quarter of overseas purchases last year.
