According to Ann Eagle, who has a property in Spain, her lifestyle has improved since she relocated from Britain.
Speaking to BBC News, she said this was highlighted by the "rosy" look of pensioners when they were out and about during evenings in winter.
She commented: "Then I think of people at home - they would be in the house by the fire, and that's if they could afford to keep warm to start with."
Ms Eagle added that since flying to Spain only takes as long as travelling from one end of Britain to the other, expats living in the country do not have to miss out on seeing friends and relations.
