Spain has been praised by a British newspaper for its efforts to reduce its contribution to climate change.
According to the Guardian, the country has built its reputation as a holiday destination by bulldozing stretches of coastline and being serviced by cheap flights.
However, the publication believes it is responding positively to the greater public awareness of environmental issues by looking to reduce its carbon footprint.
For example, officials were said to be looking at reducing speed limits on Spanish roads in order to save fuel.
Furthermore, authorities are also looking at improving the public transport infrastructure and building more environmentally-friendly cars.
Commenting on the move, the Guardian stated that the government is being "progressive" and setting a good example to other nations.
The newspaper added: "Long sought out for its heat, Spain is suddenly playing a noble role in keeping the world as a whole cool."
This comments come in the midst of the country's peak holiday season.
According to the Association of British Travel Agents, Spain is currently the most popular foreign destination among tourists from the UK.
