Spain tipped to be top destination for holidaymakers
Article Date : 05 April 2010
News Section: Spain
Property investors in Spain will be pleased by news that the European destination has been tipped to become the top tourist hotspot this summer, despite increasing competition.
The claims are sure to be welcomed at a time when the property market in the country remains bleak amidst falling prices and a poor exchange rate.
However, the Association of Independent Tour Operators (AITO) believes Spain will fight off competition from emerging destinations such as Turkey and Egypt to retain its place as the most popular destination for sun-starved Brits.
It stated: "Turkey and Egypt are already showing very strong growth as they did in 2009, partly due to them being outside of the eurozone.
"But we know that by the end of the year, Spain will once again be by far the most popular holiday destination for our customers."
According to a survey from Wanderlust and AITO, consumer confidence is returning to the travel market and an increasing number of tour operators are reporting growth in the number of Spanish rental bookings.
