Spain's popularity as a holiday destination among Britons is set to continue, an expert has predicted.
Claire Lilley, head of research at Holiday Which?, said the country appealed to people who wanted to go to "hassle-free" locations, such as families.
However, she stated that since people were now heading abroad more often than they did in the past, they were now more inclined to visit new destinations.
Ms Lilley commented: "People are going on maybe three or four holidays a year and they don't always just want to lie on a beach."
She said people were increasingly looking to indulge in activities such as canoeing, horse riding, skydiving and bungee jumping.
In addition, she stated that a growing number of British leisure travellers were visiting less-established European countries, such as Turkey and Bulgaria.
Figures from the Association of British Travel Agents show that during 2007, people from the UK went abroad 70 million times.
