Rental property in Spain could be in greater demand this year as more holidaymakers are expected to visit the country.
Holiday industry group Exceltur said that annual tourist numbers were likely to rise from 59.7 million to more than 60 million in 2008, Reuters reports.
This follows a 2.2 per cent increase in the number of holidaymakers going to Spain last year.
Most visitors were found to be heading for coastal areas with a beach, with sunshine holidays generating 70 per cent of the country's annual tourism revenue.
This figure would also be likely to grow if the most popular tourist hotspots attract more visitors this year.
Jose Luis Zoreda, Exceltur executive vice president, commented: "For 2008, we expect 60.7 million tourists in Spain."
The figures could potentially encourage prospective investors in foreign property to consider the country as a viable and lucrative market.
Spain was recently named as most popular destination among Britons who are buying property abroad by currency exchange firm HiFX.
