New Countdown presenter Jeff Stelling has spoken of his passion for property investment in Spain.

The Sky Sports anchorman, who takes over from Des O'Connor as host of the popular Channel 4 quiz show in January, revealed that he is currently planning to buy a new property in the south of the country.

Speaking to A Place in the Sun, Stelling said that the region's status as a favourite spot for holidaying footballers means he frequently rubs shoulders with Premier League stars during trips to Spain.

He said: "It's lovely and warm down here most of the year, so footballers like to come here - both to train and with their families after the season has finished.

"We've been looking at buying a place in Spain for a long time."

A native of Hartlepool, Stelling is famous for his excitable coverage and encyclopaedic football knowledge on Sky Sports programme Soccer Saturday.

He will become the fourth person to present Countdown after O'Connor, Des Lynam and original host Richard Whiteley.
