The island of Tenerife is the most popular search destination for buyers seeking property in Spain from outside the country, according to new figures.
Produced by business portal Globaledge, the analysed data from 13,000 Google searches found Tenerife to be the most popular search destination from a total of nearly 60,000 property to buy in Spain searches that were carried out in July this year.
Mallorca was the next most popular search and the apparent popularity of the islands shows that interest in the Spanish Costas may be declining.
Ashley Rigg, managing director of the company, said: "[Tenerife] accounts for a remarkable 15.3 per cent of all searches in the top 20.
"What's more, the Canary Island is twice as popular as the Costa Blanca and more than three times as popular as the Costa del Sol."
The Costa regions of Spain are the regions which have traditionally proved the most popular for holidaymakers and ex-patriots alike, but the new survey seems to show that interest is moving to the islands instead.
Wealthy Russian buyers seem to be bucking the trend, however, the Bolt Property Group told easier.com that there has been a surge of interest in inland properties for sale in Spain.
