Tourists keep flocking to Spain

Spain's tourism institute Frontur has recorded an increase in the number of foreign arrivals in the last year.

Figures from the organisation show that in August 2008, the European country attracted 7.7 million visitors - 3% up on a year earlier.

This means that since January, more than 41 million holidaymakers have taken a break in Spain.

Catalunya was identified as one of the most popular hotspots, as it has attracted 10.9 million people since the beginning of the year.

This works out to more than a quarter of the overall number of people who have visited the country during this period.

The figures will be positive news for buy-to-let investors who have bought property in Spain, as growth in the tourism sector will result in an increase in rental demand.

According to the Association of British Travel Agents, Spain is currently the most popular foreign destination among tourists from the UK.
