Confidence is beginning to return to the travel industry, with many Britons turning their back on the staycation in favour of sunnier and more exotic destinations.
The news is sure to be welcomed by buy-to-let investors who have purchased property in Spain, with an increase in holidaymakers likely to boost their level of business.
According to the results of TripAdvisor's Travel Trends Survey, more than a third of Brits think they will spend more on their holidays next year, with as many as 14 per cent intending to spend more than £8,000 on travel in 2011.
However, Emma O'Boyle, spokeswoman for the travel website, noted that "following the uncertainty of 2010 most Britons are proceeding with caution".
"While many Brits plan to increase travel budgets and take more holidays this year, the major issues of 2010 will largely impact travel plans."
Meanwhile, the latest international tourist arrival figures published by the United Nations World Tourism Organisation show that international tourist arrivals grew by seven per cent in the first eight months of 2010 compared to the same period of 2009.
