Holidaymakers from the UK are increasingly choosing to travel outside the eurozone, experts have revealed...
According to the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA), millions of consumers are now getting their summer holidays underway, mainly in places such as Spain and France.
However, the organisation believes that less-established markets such as Turkey are also seeing a surge of interest at the moment.
This has been attributed to the strength of the euro, as this has impacted on the cost of travelling to traditional hotspots within the eurozone.
Frances Tuke, spokesperson for ABTA, said Turkey in particular is benefiting from this trend, as the number of bookings is 20% up on last year.
Speaking to BBC News, she commented: "People are thinking about their pockets and where their money is going to go further."
The comments were echoed by Phil Davies of TravelMole, who told the Telegraph that the strong euro is having "significant impact" on where people are choosing to take their holidays.
