Tourists booking more trips to Turkey

A holiday provider in the UK has revealed that the number of people booking trips to Turkey has gone up this year.

According to TravelRepublic, the European country is proving to be a popular destination for Britons who are heading abroad for the bank holiday.

The online retailer said Dalaman in particular is attracting a large number of bookings.

Indeed, figures show that demand for trips to the region is 260% higher than it was this time last year.

Paul Furner, managing director of TravelRepublic, said this is partly because Turkey offers a cheaper alternative to eurozone countries, as well as respite from wet weather in the UK.

He commented: "The recent erratic weather has led to a defined spike in interest in getting away for the Bank Holiday."

This comes after the Association of British Travel Agents revealed that the number of summer bookings for trips to Turkey went up by 20% this year.
