Consumers have been encouraged to take exchange rates into account when booking a trip abroad.

According to the International Currency Exchange (ICE), the cost of living in a country is just as important as the price of flights and accommodation.

Therefore, it has recommended that people look at how much small expenses will set them back, as they could add up throughout the duration of their trip.

In addition, it has suggested that people look at how much items cost in different countries, as some places could offer better value for money than others.

Andrew Hamilton, head of marketing at ICE, commented: "The credit crunch means holidaymakers should make sure they are getting the most for their pounds, as all the little extras soon mount up."

This comes after the Post Office reported a surge in demand for Turkish currency among British consumers.

The organisation described the country as one of the "best-value" destinations in Europe, as the weak pound has made trips to eurozone members more expensive.
