Turkey is one of several European destinations attracting holidaymakers in search of a warm climate over the Christmas period.
Frances Tuke, spokesperson for the Association of British Travel Agents, said the country is proving popular with UK people who prefer the "winter sun aspect" for their Christmas holidays.
She said that Spain is also a popular choice for British sun-seekers at this time of year, with many people opting to spend the festive period in the Canary Islands or a similar destination.
"Some people want winter sun and the closest destinations to guarantee that is places like the Canary Islands and Tenerife," Ms Tuke explained.
The Christmas and new year period is a traditionally popular time for Britons to take a break in Europe, the travel expert added.
"People expect this time of year to be quiet at work and people take that opportunity," she said.
In another potential boost for property owners in the country, Turkey is set to receive even more visitors in 2010, when Istanbul is designated a European Capital of Culture.
