A growing number of holidaymakers from Israel and Iran are choosing to visit Turkey, it has been revealed.
Accordingo to Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport, there was a significant increase in the number of visitors from the two nations during the first half of this year.
Figures showed that between January and June 2007, 64 Israeli holidaymakers arrived in Turkey, along with 194 people from Iran.
Data cited by TurkishPress.com showed that during the same period of 2008, this increased to 2,222 and 1,722 respectively.
The airport has attributed to the rise to efforts to step up promotional activities in Israel and Iran.
This is more good news for the Turkish tourism industry, which is currently benefiting from a surge of interest among British holidaymakers.
According to the Association of British Travel Agents, the number of summer bookings for trips to Turkey has gone up by 20% this year.
