In news that may interest those keen on investing in waterfront property, it has been stated that Turkey is emerging as a major new centre for yachting and cruises.
Describing the country as "one of the premier yachting destinations in Europe", editor of the Buying in Turkey guide Dominic Whiting commented: "Facilities have improved dramatically in recent years with modern marinas in many resorts and berth fees well below other more established yachting destinations."
The guide notes that the towns and cities of Istanbul, Bodrum, Marmaris, Gocek, Kusadasi, Fethiye, Kemer and Alanya all have modern marinas, while four more locations have them under construction or planned.
Mr Whiting said that this development is pushing up property values while also increasing tourist buy-to-let potential, with many affordable properties in close proximity to marinas.
Last month Today's Zaman reported that the town of Didim is due to become the home of the largest marina in Turkey and the second largest in Europe, according to comments made by the town's mayor Mumin Kamaci to the Anatolia News Agency.
