Turkish holidays continue to provide good value for British visitors, with Istanbul particularly suitable for a budget-friendly city break.
The Turkish capital is recommended by the Times as one of Europe's best city destinations for money-conscious travellers from the UK, as the exchange rate is currently favourable for pound sterling.
Istanbul offers both spectacular sightseeing - the newspaper describes it as a place to "watch bulbous domes and slender minarets silhouetted against the setting sun" - and varied shopping facilities.
The historic city, which will be a European Capital of Culture in 2010, now boasts many designer boutiques to complement its traditional bazaars.
Currency firm Travelex recently commented on Turkey's growing popularity with Britons, who are attracted to the year-round warm climate as well as the exchange rate advantages.
Property owners in the country could benefit from an increase in visitor levels next year, as more people look for cheap holidays in the current economic environment.
