The authorities in Turkey are hoping to improve tourism facilities by introducing a unified standard for accommodation in the country.
According to Turkish news provider Hurriyet, the ministry of culture and tourism has devised a policy whereby accommodation facilities licensed by municipalities will be required to meet the same standards as those overseen by the ministry.
Tourism officials hope that the scheme will raise the quality of hotel and apartment facilities in response to the growing number of foreign visitors choosing Turkey as a holiday destination.
Due to be piloted in selected regions this year, the initiative is also designed to improve the facilities of smaller hotels in less developed areas of the country.
Areas due to take part in the first phase of the scheme include the Eminonu district of Istanbul, Alanya and Bodrum.
Hurriyet recently claimed that 2010 to 2012 will represent "the next set of golden years for Turkey's real estate market", with the country's developing tourism industry contributing to property growth.
