Turkey is expected to be one of the most popular destinations for UK people going abroad for Christmas.
The Association of British Travel Agents (Abta) estimates that more than three million people will head overseas for the festive period, despite the economic downturn.
According to the trade organisation, Turkey is already proving to be one of the main destinations for Britons looking to relax in the sun over Christmas.
Justin Fleming, president of Abta, commented: "Holidays - especially at this time of year - are considered to be so much more than a luxury.
"They provide a valuable time to unwind and spend quality time with family."
Abta's estimates also show that 210,000 will travel on Eurostar over Christmas, suggesting that many British people are choosing to spend the festive period in France.
Turkey experienced a 14% increase in tourism levels this year, Today's Zaman reported this week.
