Turkish currency in high demand

A growing number of British consumers are purchasing Turkish currency, according to new figures.

Statistics from M&S Money show that in the last year, there has been a 53% increase in the number of people buying Turkish lira.

This is because 1.9 million holidaymakers from the UK have booked trips to Turkey this year - 20 per cent more than in 2007.

Commenting on the findings, Fraser Millar of M&S Travel Services said the strength of the single European currency has fuelled the country's popularity among Britons.

He observed: "With the relative power of the euro against the pound, Brits are getting more for their money by opting for destinations like Turkey."

This comes after the Post Office reported a surge in demand for Turkish currency among consumers in the UK.

The organisation described the country as one of the "best-value" destinations in Europe.
