Holidaymakers from the UK are increasingly booking holidays to luxury destinations such as the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This is the conclusion of Holidays-Direct, which found that the poor weather in Britain is prompting many to fly out to sunny locations. The UAE was identified as one of the main hotspots for people from the UK, as it has seen an increase in the number of bookings this year. Holidays-Direct said places such as Dubai are proving to be popular as consumers want to go "somewhere special". Jon Pearce, spokesperson for Holidays-Direct, commented: "We all need cheering up, so a holiday is a luxury that has become a necessity for many." He added that Dubai also offers a pleasant alternative to the "lousy weather" the UK has been experiencing this summer. This comes after a study by Cater Allen Private Bank revealed that nearly two-thirds of Britons would like to visit a long-haul destination.
