Britons determined to travel abroad

Consumers from the UK are refusing to let the economic downturn force them to cancel their holidays, a new study has found.

Research by e-commerce specialist Avail Intelligence revealed that 57% are not altering their plans as a result of the credit crunch, reports Netimperative.

Indeed, nearly one in five respondents said they could actually spend more on holiday this year than they did in 2007.

Furthermore, just 17 per cent of those surveyed that they would make cutbacks in other areas, such as spending less on books, gadgets and clothes.

Rolf Elmer, chief executive of Avail Intelligence, commented: "It's interesting to see that luxury items are still such a priority."

According to the Association of Independent Tour Operators (AITO), consumers now believe a holiday overseas is a vital part of their lives.

The organisation said this is because people believe they are working harder for longer, hence the need for a proper break.
