Many leisure travellers in the UK are choosing to visit eastern Europe, according to a new study...

Research by PriceRunner found that almost half of all British consumers are looking to avoid the eurozone, because of the relatively poor exchange rates.

As a result, many people are opting to visit other short-haul destinations which do not use the single European currency, such as places in eastern Europe.

Since exchange rates are increasingly becoming an issue for overseas leisure travellers, the website has recommended that people find out as much as they can before booking a trip.

Mattias Berg, managing director of PriceRunner, commented: "By doing your research before travelling, you'll discover which countries and cities offer the best value for money."

One eastern European which looks set to attract more British visitors over the next few months is Montenegro.

Last month, Montenegro Airlines began operating a twice-weekly service between Tivat and London's Gatwick Airport.
