Holidays are important to consumers

Consumers in the UK still see a holiday as a very important part of their lives, according to an analyst.

Paul Havenhand, marketing director for Towergate Bakers, stated that travelling abroad for a break is still deemed a priority by many.

This, he said, is despite deepening economic problems, which have led to extra financial constraints on lots of people.

Mr Havenhand commented: "As a nation we continue to work harder than many of our European counterparts, with fewer bank holidays and increasing number of hours worked per week."

He added that taking a week or two away in a foreign destination can be a valuable opportunity for people to recharge their batteries.

This echoes recent comments from Dermot Blastland of TUI Travel UK, who said the economic slowdown is not forcing consumers to give up their trips abroad.

He stated that this is because people now consider a holiday a necessity rather than a luxury.
