A growing number of people in Edinburgh are looking into the possibility of moving abroad full-time, it has been revealed.
According to Overseas Emigration, applications across Scotland have gone up by nearly a third in the last 12 months.
However, the organisiation has said the number is running above the national average in the capital city at about 37 per cent.
Richard Gregan, managing director of Overseas Emigration, said the poor weather over the last two summers has fuelled this trend, along with the continuing downturn in the economy.
He told the Edinburgh Evening News that a number of personal circumstances could also be fuelling migration to other countries.
Mr Gregan commented: "Perhaps someone has recently lost an elderly parent that was tying them to a certain place, or they want to build a better future for their child."
This comes after Paul Arthur of The Emigration Group told the Manchester Evening News that the desire to move abroad is also particularly strong in north-west England.
