The poor weather in the UK over the summer has helped boost the number of foreign holiday bookings, it has been revealed.
According to Bolton-based firm Travel Counsellors, it has seen a significant surge in consumer activity over the last month.
Steve Byrne, managing director of the holiday provider, stated that this is partly because Britain once again experienced an unseasonably wet summer this year.
As a result, many were said to be booking trips abroad for the half-term period and the Christmas and new year break.
Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, Mr Byrne commented: "People still want their holidays."
He added that long-haul destinations are proving to be very popular with British holidaymakers this year, in particular Dubai.
This comes after Holidays-Direct revealed that top-end destinations such as the United Arab Emirates are attracting a higher-than-average number of bookings this year.
The online travel agency believes this is because British consumers want to make the most of their holiday time and ensure that it is a memorable trip.
