Plans for a green city in Florida with a net solar energy output have been unveiled.
The proposed 19,500-home city of Babcock Ranch will have a solar generator that produces 75mw of electricity per day - more than the populace will use.
As a result, even though other sources of energy will be required after dark the net contribution to the grid means it will be a solar city.
Commenting on the plans, developer Syd Kitson told the Miami Herald: ''We're out to prove that it works economically and it's the right thing to do for the long-term solutions in this country.''
Those keen on investing in eco-friendly property in Florida were given a boost in November last year.
At that time a referendum passed an amendment to the state constitution to ensure those fitting green energy devices to a home did not see their property taxes raised due to the consequent increase in its value.
