Investors with dollars 'taking advantage of US property markets'
Article Date : 10 August 2011

British investors - and indeed those from other parts of the world - who have a large proportion of their funds in dollars are the ones targeting the US real estate market.
So says Adam Samuel, director at Nubricks.com, who explained that the "weaker dollar and the weak state of prices" is attractive to people with their savings tied up in the US currency.
"Those types of people are active in the marketplace and are finding bargains - or bargains compared to the prices that used to be there," he stated.
However, he cautioned that it could take a long time for property values in the US to recover, adding that there is no guarantee that they will return to previous levels.
Research published by Savills earlier this week showed that since 2005, real estate prices in New York have risen by just seven per cent.
This is compared to increases of 154 per cent in Mumbai and 143 per cent in Shanghai over the same timeframe.
