Living in the US could be much cheaper for Britons keen to enjoy the same kinds of food and drink they do in the UK, research has indicated.
A study by Foreign Currency Direct found that a shopper buying six eggs, 200 English tea bags, a jar of Branston Pickle, Heinz Tomato Ketchup, baked beans, 12 rashers of unsmoked bacon and a pint of beer would pay the equivalent of £12.82 in the US.
This amounts to 17 per cent less than the average cost of £15.36 for the same basket of goods at home.
Chief executive of the firm Peter Ellis commented: "People thinking about a move abroad need to consider more than just the price of overseas property, particularly if they want to keep buying their creature comforts."
Those whose idea of an enjoyable home life in the US would include access to a Florida beach may have good news to look forward to.
Last week a new law was proposed in the state legislature to ban private landowners from restricting access to public beaches, the Tampa Tribune reports.
