Water transport unveiled as feature of eco city

In news that may interest those keen on investing in environmentally-friendly property, it has been revealed that a new eco city in Florida will be using water both to prevent urban sprawl and to supply a means of transport.

The city of Destiny near Orlando will have a number of navigable waterways, alongside a floating market and paths for cycling and hiking under details just revealed, the Orlando Sentinel reports.

Such a scheme may particularly interest those keen on the ambience of a Venice-style transport arrangement.

Destiny is due to commence construction in 2011, with its population potentially reaching 250,000 in 50 years.

At present the site is mainly made up of farmland.

Last month it was revealed that the city will include the first energy farm in the US.

This is intended to showcase the farming of fuel crops such as jatropha, algae and sweet sorghum, Marketwatch reported.
