November 2006 will see direct flights from UK airports initally starting with Birmingham. However there will be an 'open skies' policy allowing other airlines to fly to Cape Verde and forcing lower air fares through competition.
Until then travellers to Cape Verde will have to change at either Paris, Madrid, Gran Canaria or Lisbon from the UK. Lisbon is by far the most popular as it runs far more frequently, is quicker and services the airport of Sal Island and Santiago Island.
