Germany Faq's

Below you will find answers to some of your initial questions regarding property purchase in Germany.

Can foreign nationals own property in Germany?

Yes. In fact, unlike many places there are no restrictions on foreigners owning property in Germany.

Why should I choose Germany?

No one can really answer this on an individual basis, because the quality of an investment lies mainly in the eyes of the beholder and depends on what they want to achieve from the investment. But if you are looking for a safe and affordable place to invest in property that will earn a reliable and solid – if not spectacular – rental income, then Germany is the place for you.

What is the economic and political situation?

Germany is the biggest economy in Europe and the 3-4th biggest in the world depending on which GDP measure you go by. It is also the third biggest exporter in the world. In terms of politics Germany has an established and safe democracy with no signs of any political turmoil on the horizon, nothing major in any case.

How do I travel to Germany?

Germany has three major airports Berlin, Munich and Frankfurt. You can also access it via the channel tunnel from the UK and by train and car from destinations throughout Europe.

Is a visa required to enter Germany?

You DO NOT need a visa for short stays in Germany if you are:

  • a citizen of the EU/EEA/EFTA
  • a holder of a Diplomatic, Service or Special Passport from Chad, Ghana, Philippines and Turkey
  • a holder of a Diplomatic, Service, Special or Official Passport from Thailand.
  • a partner (married or civil partnership) or child of an EU/EEA/EFTA national if you hold a British "Residence Card of a Family Member of an EEA National" or a "Permanent Residence Card" - and only if you are travelling together with the EU/EEA/EFTA national
  • a citizen of a country listed below (provided you are not going to stay longer than three months and you are not going to do any paid or self-employed work)
  • a holder of a Diplomatic Passport from Albania, Algeria, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Georgia, India, Jamaica, Kenya, Macedonia, Malawi, Moldova, Montenegro, Morocco, Namibia, Pakistan, Peru, Russian Federation, Serbia, South Africa, Tunisia, Ukraine and United Arab Emirates
