The huge swells that roll in from the Atlantic Ocean make Sagres one of Portugal's best destinations for wind- and kite surfers and body boarding enthusiasts. Spectacular scenery and reasonably priced room rates for holiday accommodation attract a lively community of surfers to the town every summer. Several beaches are sheltered from the massive waves, which makes them suitable for beginners as well as more experienced surfers. The main surfing beach is Praia da Mareta, where medium waves offer surfers with intermediate experience a safe environment in which to practice.
The town also attracts cyclists, making it a good place for investors to look for historic houses that could be converted into affordable Sagres holiday apartments. Converted two-bedroom town houses start at around 200,000 euros, while asking prices for three-bedroom houses are around 400,000 euros.
Sagres lies on the edge of Sao Vicente National Park, which brings nature enthusiasts and hikers to the town. A lively surfing community heading out to the bars and restaurants in the evening also presents the chance to invest in such businesses.
